Works great! July 21, 2010 J. Murray Installs quickly. Perfect gift for my husband and his Jeep. His trailer hitch is free. It doesn't rub the paint or show any signs it will...and it was a great price! Our only tip - tighten and then tighten again after you put the bikes on.
Sturdy, but watch out that you don't scratch your car or bike! July 13, 2010 Danny (Cambridge, MA) This rack is much sturdier than I would have guessed for something that just hooks over the tire. As others have mentioned, you want to be careful that the metal part of the rack that rests on the tire doesn't directly touch the metal hub cap otherwise there will be scratches. I also discovered that there are rubber caps that cover the ends of the tubes of the rack. My bike was resting against that rubber cap - can't be helped if you put the bike on the holder closest to the tire. When I got to my destination, the rubber cap was almost worn through and falling off. Once it falls off, the end of the tube will start scratching the bike and anything else it comes into contact with for that matter. Solution: I wrapped a towel around the the part of the rack that rests on the tire and also around the the end of the tube where the bike hits. Problem solved. Bottom line, for the price, this is a great rack that gets the job done. If you want something that doesn't take as much TLC, you'll probably spend a lot more money.
Great Purchase July 7, 2010 Fellix (Taunton, MA USA) Bought this bike rack with carrying 3 adult bikes in mind however only 2 will fit without possible damage by squeezing in a 3rd adult bike. Will probably take a child's bike as the 3rd. Rack is very easy to install on and remove from the spare tire of our 2004 Jeep Liberty. Rack folds up enough to allow storage inside the Jeep all the time. Have taken a couple of 60 mile trips with no problems. Would have given 5 stars if a) rack could actually fit 3 adult bikes easily and b) a strap or bungie cord had been supplied to hold the bikes against the bottom of the rack. Bikes swing away from bottom of rack when driving over rough road (and speed bumps).
Fabulous Bike rack! July 6, 2010 Christineg7020 This product is a gem! Just used it for the first time this weekend to take the bikes on a camping trip and it was outstanding. Easy to put on the tracker and super sturdy all the way there and home. I would recommend this procuct to anyone.
It Works After Slight Modification June 20, 2010 G. Roberts I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler with a 31" spare tire. This bike rack works well for me after I made a few modifications. All I really did was buy a piece of foam pipe insulation and wrapped a few areas of the rack with the insulation and put some zip ties to keep it there. The bikes are going to rub on the carrier, and using the foam insulation will protect them. Once I did that, the carrier is just fine.
