5 out of 5 stars Perfect Kids and Stuff at the Beach Mover   July 24, 2010
music on vinyl (Pennsylvania vintage)
This might be the third review I've taken the time to write in the past 5 years. Every once in a while you just have to let everybody else know how a purchase you've made really delivers on the promise. The InStep Quick N EZ bicycle trailer made my week in Ocean City, New Jersey much more enjoyable then if had just relied on my traditional Little Red Wagon to scoot the kids and stuff down to the water.

Before purchasing, I read a couple of reviews on Amazon to see what the consensus was...and I can see I'm not the only fan of the InStep trailers. On the trip down to the water from the beach house (that is a few too many blocks away) I was able to shuttle one 4 year old, two boogie boards, two beach chairs, 4 towels, 2 stuffed backpacks, an umbrella, a bucket and shovel, cooler, multiple shoes and hats and some other stuff. There is an area behind where the rider (or riders) sit. It's cavernous. This trailer would work great for somebody who wanted to run errands with their bike in the city. You could pick up furniture with this thing (100lbs capacity).

I looked at the aluminum and steel versions. I've gotta say the Aluminum was a little lighter, but the steel framed trailer struck me as much more willing to suffer abuse. The carrying capacity is the same and the steel one is half the price. After living with the trailer for a week, I'm happy I chose the steel. Very robust.

This thing folds up to the size of a folded beach chair. Amazing. The wheels pop on and off very easily for storage and I prefer the nylon wheels as opposed to the spoked. The nylon wheels seem indestructible. (I'm guessing they are some type of nylon or composite plastic).

The Instep was also great going from the boardwalk down to the sand during the day with all of the necessary items. It pulled through the hot sand (in stroller mode - not attached to the bike of course) with little effort. It was loaded down pretty well (with stuff...no kids...they hoofed that part). Much better machine for the job than the wagon.

At the end of the day when it was time to head the 10 blocks or so down to the boardwalk the Instep delivered again. It happily carried one 6 year old and one 4 year old (70-80 lbs. combined) right down to the where the action was. It's very easy towing and the kids were as happy as they would be on a coach ride through Central Park. Great fun for them. I had some small clip on LED lights (one red and one white) that I attached to the InStep and my bike with the included velcro straps (see link). The lights had a flashing feature that lit my bike and trailer up enough as we rode along the sidewalk at night. I was happy I had them.

I have not a single complaint. Could I think of some improvements? Probably. Sure the "seats" could be more home theater like....but it's a lightweight bicycle trailer. They worked fine. The buckles and straps are ok. Not perfect...but fine.

I forgot to mention how great the "coupler" or "hitch" works. Very easy to connect and disconnect the trailer from the bike. Ingenious system. I would caution that you do need a 1/2 radius free and clear around the non-chain side of your rear axle for the bike side of the hitch system. This would be the flat part of the frame that the axle nut tightens against. I think the majority of bikes would have this, but there will be a few that don't.

Here is the link to the lights I had: Planet Bike Spok Light Set

I love my Instep Quick N EZ bike trailer!

3 out of 5 stars This is a discontinued item.... Broken piece after only being used with a bike 1 time!   July 20, 2010
K. Sulzer (Lebanon, PA)
This was purchased as a gift for my family on April 27th 2010. It was used soley as a stroller for my 3 year old daugher until 3 days ago when I got my bike fixed up to ride. Already the piece that attatched the canopy frame to the bottom frame broke away, and the fabric was wearing/ripping under the feet area before this.
I called the 1-800 number, and spoke to a woman who informed me the trailer I purchased was manufactured in 2007, and has been discontinued. I had to push a bit to get them to send new fabric, and it seemed like she didn't believe that this item was just purchased a few months ago.

I was able to request the replacement parts, but warned that next time I need to have proof of order on hand (I did when calling this time, but was not asked for the order number from Amazon.com).

2 out of 5 stars Fine for very light, infrequent use   July 19, 2010
Gene Brinson
First use today with a 42" tall 38.4 pound child.
-Floor sags almost to the ground, shows signs of readiness to tear upon loading child
-Head touches top, legs srunched at bottom
-Harness inside is cheap, flimsy and rough on edegs
-Cover snaps and snaps on frame don't line up well
-Not very reflective, extra reflective material had to be added
-Plastic cover for front absolutely neccessary as rocks/dirt fly into trailer hitting child, no other option for ventilation making riding very uncomfortable

Design would be improved by
-Particle board or the like to line the floor with and give it some stability
-More height for helmets
-Adjustable straps on floor to add stability
-Reinforcements on seams that will take a lot of pressure i.e. child stepping on to get in seat
-Exclusive use of buckles in harness
-Covers for harness to avoid cutting into sensitive skin
-Tinting widow or added shade to top preventing over exposure
-Ventilating side windows

Will be looking for a more sturdy, thoughtful design. Children deserve to enjoy riding as well.

Do not buy if you plan on using frequently it will not hold up.

4 out of 5 stars Great trailer for a first-timer   July 7, 2010
R. Olson (Northern Virginia USA)
Just so you know... InStep is made by Schwinn. This is a nice trailer/stroller. Had it for a few months. Haven't taken it out on anything longer than about 30 minutes yet, but here are some observations:
easy assemble and fold-up, smooth ride, air filled tires, easy attach/detach with provided adapter.
I did notice that the seat is only a single strap underneath the canvas pad, and in my case it ends up being right on the front edge of the seat, but it kind of sticks out and rests under my sons knees instead of the canvas. Not much for adjustment available. Also, with two kids I can imagine it getting pretty tight shoulder-to-shoulder in there. Height is good, and my almost 2 yo son loves riding in it; I put him in the center buckles. One very warm and humid day gave him pretty rosey cheeks, so not sure how well the venting is on the back. The sides are solid plastic to prevent little hands from reaching out, which is great. Also, you will need to pack sunglasses and a hat for your little one since shade protection isn't really there if the sun is high.
I got mine using some textbook trade-in credit through amazon's trade-in program, and it is a very good price for very good quality! Recommended!

4 out of 5 stars So far so good hope it will last...   July 4, 2010
Raz Biran
It is my first experience with these types of trailers.
The frame looks robust, but I don't know how long the material/nylon will last.
My considerations for purchasing this trailer were the price, and the option of the trailer to become a trolley that can be taken off road. The maneuver in hard trails is great. The straps and the seats are not comfortable and I needed to place a soft baby mattress inside to easy the ride for my daughter.
Three more issues. One is that the flag came broken, and the other the overall packaging for this product was not very protective, the corners were smashed and there were many holes in the cardboard box. I don't think it is a consideration for buying this product or not, but InStep should pay more attention to packaging and protecting this product.
The third, issue is the metal bracket attaches the trailer to the bike doesn't fit my bike and now I need to think about a different bracket to have the trailer attached.
